Jump! Urban Observing Oct 18th

Hi everyone,

Here’s a satellite photo of the site. If you know where you’d like to be placed, please call or text Jeff Creed at 208-724-7838. Jeff will be coordinating with those already committed to help assign spots, which will reduce confusion during the first hour. Arrival time is earliest at 3pm and latest 5:30 pm. If you have Solar ability 3 pm would be ideal.

We’ll be using the service elevator at the Myrtle Street ground-level entrance, going straight to the top. A walk-through document is being created to guide everyone. The Go – No Go will be on this page and txt. It is October, so weather may work against us.

Think of these locations as our general starting points. If you want to come and spots are filled – WE WILL MAKE SPACE.

Entry & Setup Details

We’ll be entering from the west side onto the deck (left side of the image) and moving to designated spots. The service elevator opens right next to the entry door.

  • The deck area for spots 1 through 6 it measures 40 feet wide by 20 feet deep.
  • The walkway curving around the building is 15 feet wide.
  • The shadows visible in the image are from short grey path lights [take a peek at the picture] with louvers that direct light down—there is no overhead lighting.
  • Spots 8 and 9 are close to power sources, which may be useful if you have power-hungry electronics.
  • Small ladders can be brought in if needed.

Event Notes

This event will include a wide range of ages, and we do expect children to attend.

Parking Info

JUMP has over 500 parking spaces, many of which are underground. Jeff Creed will have parking validation stickers for everyone attending.

General Parking Plan:

  1. Park temporarily in the loading zone.
  2. Take your scope or gear up.
  3. Return to park your vehicle.
  4. Come back up to your designated spot.

Some pictures of our BAS members and Bruneau Dunes Observatory staff that made this event! A lot of fun.
